Privacy Policy

BracketSim is run by TheDruidMan, who is the "controller" of the personal information described here under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). Contact: [email protected].

In short: BracketSim has no accounts, no advertising and no analytics or tracking. It uses what you give it to run your simulations, keeps it for a limited time, and never sells it.

What we collect

• What you submit to run a simulation: your SimulationCraft export or the character you look up (region, realm, character name, gear, talents), and the options you choose.
• Character data from Blizzard: if you use the Armory import, we send the region, realm and name you type to Blizzard's API and receive that character's public profile (level, class, spec, equipped gear, talents and appearance).
• Your simulation results: the reports we produce for you.
• Technical information: like every website, our servers see your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. We use it to deliver the site, prevent abuse and fix faults.

We never ask for, collect or store your Battle.net or Blizzard password, and you should never give it to us.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

We use this information only to provide the simulations you ask for, to show you the results, and to keep the Service secure and working. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in providing a service you have chosen to use and keeping it safe; your information is used only in ways you would expect.

How long we keep it

• Simulation inputs: deleted as soon as the sim finishes; anything a fault leaves behind is deleted within a day. Results are held on the server for 10 minutes so your page can collect them, then deleted. Your reports are kept only in your own browser.
• Shared reports: only when you press Share. A copy of that report (the character's name, realm, level, spec, gear, talents and results - never any comments or free text) is kept on our server for 30 days so anyone with the share link can open it, then deleted. The link is not listed anywhere and search engines are told not to index it. To have one removed sooner, email us the link.
• Anything obtained from Blizzard's API: deleted or refreshed within 30 days, as Blizzard requires.
• Server logs (IP address and requests): deleted after 14 days, unless we need them longer to deal with a specific abuse or security problem.

Stored on your device

BracketSim does not use advertising or tracking cookies. It keeps a few things in your browser's own storage because the site needs them to work: your list of recent reports and your settings (such as the iteration count and the DPS / % switch). They stay on your device and you can delete them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.

Who else receives information

• Blizzard Entertainment: the region, realm and name you look up with the Armory import. Character portraits are shown directly from Blizzard's image server, which sees your IP address.
• Wowhead: item and spell tooltips use Wowhead's tooltip script, which your browser loads from Wowhead. Wowhead sees your IP address and which tooltips you open.
• Our hosting provider, Hetzner Online GmbH (Germany), which runs our servers and processes data only on our instructions.
• Cloudflare, Inc., which delivers the site and protects it from attacks. Every request passes through Cloudflare, which sees your IP address and the pages you request.
• Links to the Armory, Warcraft Logs, Raider.IO and Wowhead open those sites only if you click them.

Each of these services handles what it receives under its own privacy policy. We do not sell, rent or trade your information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We may disclose information if the law requires it.

Our servers are in the European Union (Germany). The UK recognises the EU as giving personal information an adequate level of protection, so information stored there stays protected to UK standards. Cloudflare may handle a request in a data centre outside the UK and EU (usually the one nearest you); it does so under its data processing terms, which include the UK's approved safeguards for international transfers.

Game data is provided "as is"

Game and character data comes from Blizzard Entertainment and is provided to you "as is", without any warranty that it is complete, accurate or up to date. BracketSim is not made or endorsed by Blizzard.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to restrict or object to how we use it. Because we keep no accounts, tell us the character (region, realm and name) and roughly when you used BracketSim. We will reply within one month. Contact [email protected].

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Children

BracketSim is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

If we change how we collect or use information, we will update this page before the change happens and list it on Site Updates.
